Invitation for November 26, 2011
It is almost time again for our monthly meeting, and we warmly invite you to share it with us. This time we will give some attention to a beloved Dutch saint – Sinterklaas, the favorite day of children and a day of gifts for everyone.
This meeting of International Café will be held on Saturday, November 26 at the Hereweg 1 in Groningen, from 18:00 until 21:30 As usual there will be soup and bread, coffee and tea and cake. But this time there will also be some special Sinterklaas goodies for you to try.
Anton Langeler, who has provided music for us at several of our events, will tell you a bit about the customs around Sinterklaas, and give you opportunity to experience some of the fun of this truly Dutch celebration.
This time we’d like to ask everyone to bring along:
1. One extra shoe or boot (besides the ones you are wearing).
2. A small gift costing no more than 3 euro’s. The gift should be suitable for anyone,
male or female (you can also make the gift). Please wrap it.
3. If possible, a short poem of 2 or 4 lines in English (Example:“If you really like to eat, Open this and find a treat” or “Here is something just for you; Sint has put it in your shoe.”)
We hope you can join us! It is a great opportunity to meet and make friends with people from many different countries and also to chat with the Dutch students and staff who help us. The evening is free, but there is a box where you can make a small contribution for the costs of rent and food.
If you have signed up but for some reason are not able to come will you please let us know as soon as you can so that we know how much food will be needed!
Paul Nieboer, Hans and JoAnn van Seventer, Patty Scholma, Hinke van Abbema and Jiaqi Zhang
