Invitation for January 30International Cafe @ Facebook
Dear International students,
What a wonderful time we had with so many of you at the Christmas dinner! As the new year has begun we would like to welcome back many old friends and to invite new friends to participate in our meetings of International Café.
International Café was started in 2008 to make students from abroad feel at home during their time in Groningen. It is a place to relax, meet friends from other cultures, and talk with friendly ‘natives’ about things you may not understand in the Netherlands. You can find more information about us and see photos of our activities on our website.
This year’s first regular monthly meeting of International Café will be held on Saturday, January 30 at Het Pand, Madoerastraat 16 in Groningen, from 18:00 until 22:00 o’clock. There will be soup and bread, coffee and tea and homemade cake. We will also have the pleasure of hearing from Syrian friends who will sing some of their national songs for us. For the rest of the evening we will have a relaxed time for games and conversation.
Because many of you may be new we will also be happy to talk with you about questions you may have about aspects of Dutch culture which you have encountered. These meetings are always a great opportunity to meet students from different countries as well as some Dutchies! One of students’ favourite games is shuffleboard, and we invite you to join in!
If you would like to give a short talk about your country sometime please let us know! We welcome new ‘speakers’ for our evenings and it is so interesting to learn about our friends’ home countries. We have a beamer, so you can use powerpoint.
The evening is free, but there is a box where you can make a small contribution for the costs of rent and food. Please sign up for this meeting by Friday, January 29. Always sign up through the form below
IMPORTANT: If you have signed up but for some reason are not able to come will you please let us know as soon as you can so that we know how much food will be needed!
We hope to see you again, you and your friends are welcome!
Paul Nieboer, Hans and JoAnn van Seventer, Hinke van Abbema and Martin Geertsma, Mary van Loon and Mirjam Poelman, and a bunch of great helpers.
